Former Tennessee women's golfer Nicole Smith captured third place in the Symetra Tour's Northeast Delta Dental International in New Hampshire on Sunday. Smith shot 3-under over the three day event.
It was Smith's second-best finish in her pro career. She finished tied for second in the 2011 Santorini Riviera Nayarit Classic in Nuevo Vallarta, Mexico.
On Sunday, Smith held the lead early in the day before Jenny Gleason and Esther Choe tied for the lead at 5-under. Gleason won the title with a one-hole playoff win. Smith shot 67-73-73 for a three-day total of 213. She led the event after the first day.
Smith turned professional in 2009 after starrin at Tennessee. She recorded 16 top-15 finishes, including one win, in collegiate competition while at Tennessee. Smith was a 2006 NCGA All-American Honorable Mention selection and a four-time All-SEC Academic Honors selection (2006 - 2009). SMith was also a three-time All-SEC Second Team selection (2007 - 2009).
