POWELL, Ohio - Tennessee's tandem of Erica Popson and AJ Newell turned in the best round of the day as they moved to seventh place overall at the Pure Silk Women's Collegiate Team Championship on Tuesday. Popson and Newell carded an 8-under par on Tuesday and now stand at 2-under after two days of action. They stand four strokes off the lead which is at 6-under in a three-way tie.
Ashley Armstrong and Kristina Nhim of the University of Notre Dame, Kendall Martindale and Lauren Stratton of Vanderbilt University and Meredith Swanson and Samantha Swinehart of the University of South Carolina are tied atop the leader board after the second round of the 3rd Annual Pure Silk Women's Collegiate Team Championship at Wedgewood Golf & Country Club in Powell, Ohio.
Seven teams are within four shots of the lead with tomorrow's format being an aggregate score of the two players.
Fifty-four teams will return on Thursday morning for the final day of action with tee times set to begin at 8:00 a.m.
The format of the Championship is Day 1 (July 31): Alternate Shot; Day 2 (Aug. 1): Best Ball; and Day 3 (Aug. 2): Aggregate Score of the two players. Teams are comprised of players from all levels of collegiate golf including Division I, II III and NAIA programs.
