KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - On Tuesday, the Tennessee women's golf team announced its complete tournament schedule for the upcoming 2013-14 season.

Head coach Judi Pavon will lead the Vols into their new season minus two major pillars of her program, Sara Monberg and Erica Popson.

"We will obviously miss both Erica (Popson) and Sara (Monberg)," Pavon said. "However, we have eight very talented girls heading into next season."

Among the eight Lady Vol golfers, four will be new additions. The new faces will be freshmen Lucia Polo, Hannah Pietila, and Knoxville native Teleri Hughes. In addition, Hannah's sister Emmie Pietila will be competing as a sophomore after sitting out last season as a transfer.

The Lady Vol veterans will be led by lone senior Chessey Thomas. She will have help from returning juniors AJ Newell, Mason Chen, and Daeun Song. All four returnees have stayed busy this off-season by competing in a number of different amateur tournaments.

Coach Pavon has also welcomed the arrival of assistant coach Erika Brennan. The former Saint Leo University head women's golf coach comes to Knoxville after former assistant Jan Dowling took the head women's golf coaching position at the University of Michigan.

The new Volunteer squad will play a schedule that includes some challenging courses, entertaining venues and locations, and competition against some of the nation's best programs. Some schedule highlights include:

Mercedes-Benz Championship in Knoxville (host)

  • Note: The 17th edition of the event will take place at Cherokee Country Club. Cherokee has not hosted the event since 2007. The Lady Vols finished runner-up at last year's Mercedes-Benz Championship.
  • Pavon Quote: "We are excited to host the Mercedes-Benz of Knoxville Championship again. It's always great to be able to host and have a home event. We are looking to build off last year's second place finish."

Lady Puerto Rico Classic

  • Note: The Lady Vols have not played the Puerto Rico Classic since 2009 when they finished runner-up.
  • Pavon Quote: "We're really looking forward to playing down in Puerto Rico. It will be a nice trip that I'm sure some of our fans will make and enjoy."

Darius Rucker Intercollegiate

  • Note: The event is in its second season and is hosted by the University of South Carolina, musician Darius Rucker, and the Long Cove Club in Hilton Head. In addition to hosting, Rucker performs a private concert for all the players, coaches, and guests.
  • Pavon Quote: "The Darius Rucker Intercollegiate is always fun. In addition to the tournament having a strong field, it's great to meet Darius Rucker and attend the private concert he puts on for the attendees. We also can't say enough about the great support we get from the Tennessee fans in the area."

The Vols will look to make it back to the NCAA Championship after missing the finals last year. The 2014 NCAA Championship will be held at the Tulsa Country Club in Tulsa, Okla., on May 20-23.
