Lady Vol golfer Sara Monberg is in Texas this week competing for her home country of Denmark in The Spirit Internation Amateur Golf Championship.
The tournament, which features teams from 20 countries, was established in 2001 and takes place every other year. The teams play 72 holes of best ball competition.
Each country forms a team of four players -- two men and two women. Overall there will be five titles: the overall country champion, a men's pair champion, a women's pair champion and men's and women's individual titles.Monberg has been a member of the Danish national team since 2004 and is excited to represent her country at the event.
"I am playing for Denmark and it is always an honor to play for your home country," Monberg said. "Hopefully [teammate] Mette [Kryger Pedersen] and I can play as well as the Danish team did two years ago."
For Monberg, The Spirit is an opportunity to continue playing competitive golf as the Tennessee team moves into the offseason.
"For me to be playing in the offseason is great," Monberg said. "I keep playing and can start working on some of the things i need to improve for the spring."
