DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Former Lady Vol stars Angela Oh and Young-A Yang got off to fantastic starts on Wednesday during the first day of competition at the LPGA Final Qualifying Tournament held at the Champions and Legends courses at LPGA International.

Oh fired a 2-under 70 and is tied for eighth, while Yang carded a 1-under 71 and is tied for 16th.

Another former Lady Vol, Jessica Shepley, also competed on Wednesday, tallying a 2-over 74 to tie for 59th.

A field of 120 players is competing at the event to either earn membership or improve their current member status for the 2011 LPGA Tour. The tournament is a five-round qualifier with a tournament cut to the low 70 players and ties after 72 holes. Those players making the cut will compete in the final round on the Champions Course.

The top 20 players at the conclusion of the event will earn Priority in Category 11. Players finishing in the 21s-30th spots will earn Priority in Category 16, followed by 31st-40th, who will receive Priority in Category 20. All category positions will be determined by a playoff.

Oh tied for 40th at the final qualifier in 2008, and was sixth on the FUTURES Tour money list this past fall. The Maple Shade, N.J., native played for the Lady Vols from 2006-08, earning honorable-mention All-America honors from Golfweek as well as second-team All-SEC in 2007.

Yang has been a member of the LPGA Tour since 2003 and has competed in over 100 tournaments, earning nearly $700,000. The Tae-Gu City, South Korea, native is the most decorated golfer in Big Orange history, having earned four All-America distinctions from 1999-2002.

Shepley has competed in six LPGA tournaments since graduating from Tennessee as an All-SEC and honorable mention All-America award winner during her career from 2001-05.
