OAK RIDGE, Tenn.--The Tennessee women's rowing team had an extremely solid performance against Wisconsin Saturday afternoon on Melton Hill Lake in Oak Ridge.
"Today was a great experience for us," head coach Lisa Glenn said. "We faced a great team and we got some experience on the course where we will host the regional next month."
UT started off the day with a victory over the Badgers in the V8+, finishing with a time of 6:40.8. The Big Orange would also take the second flight of the V8+ with a time of 6:35.0.
The 2V8+ belonged to the Orange and White, as Tennessee took both flights. UT was dominant in both, winning by an average margin of 30 seconds. Coach Glenn's team crossed the finish line in 6:49.2 and 7:00.7, respectively.
Wisconsin bested the Lady Vols in the third eights and the third fours. UT raced three boats in the 3V4+, taking third, fourth and fifth place in the race. Wisconsin swept the top two positions in the 1000m race, the best time of which was a 4:00.2.
UW was also strong in the first flight of the 4V8+, winning by nearly 16 seconds
The final race, a second flight in the 4V8+, was halted after 1500 meters due to rain in the area with Wisconsin in the lead.
Tennessee's varsity rowers will take a week off before traveling to Sacramento, Calif. to face No. 4 California on April 17-18. The novices will take part in the Southeast Intercollegiate Rowing Association (S.I.R.A.) Regatta in Oak Ridge on April 17.
