COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Lady Vol rowing team completed their third race of the season at the Ohio State Invitational in Columbus. Tennessee raced No. 8 Michigan and No. 4 Ohio State at the invitational, although they didn't race them, Notre Dame was also present.

"We were fortunate to have the opportunity, with only 2 races under our belts, to take the line twice today' head coach Lisa Glenn stated. "We certainly wanted to bring Ohio State and Michigan stiffer competition than we did, and will take valuable lessons from racing them."

The early morning began with the Lady Vols racing Ohio State in the V8+ coxed by Jessie Richardson, the Lady Vols fell behind completing the course in 7 minutes and 23.7 seconds while Ohio State had a time of 6 minutes and 52.7 seconds. The shell included Jennifer Bailey, Kayla Lucier, Rachel White, Andrea Keesecker, Taylor Athan, Erika Johnson, Anita McLure, and Sarah McAuliffe.

In the 2V8+ Tennessee's shell coxed by Harper Lucas, including Katie King, Evelyn Radford, Katherine Changes, Arin Anderson, Liz Dickson, Maddie Bishop, Whitney Wolfe, and Rachel Whitaker, finished the race in second place with a time of 7 minutes and 29.8 seconds, following Ohio State who had a time of 7 minutes and 15.7 seconds.

In the fours category, Tennessee's V4+ led by Ashley Fichthorn, including Liza Rader, Mary-Hannah Daugherty, Victoria Bartell, and Kaitlan Aries fell to Ohio State by 25.33 seconds, crossing the finishing line in 8 minutes and 34.83 seconds. The 2V4+ also came in second to the Buckeyes with a time of 8 minutes and 25.47 seconds, led by Erin Allen.

After competing against Ohio State the Big Orange focused their attention to No. 8 Michigan. The first race of the afternoon was the V8+ where the margin between boats was 15.15 seconds, allowing Michigan's V8+ to cross the finish line in 7 minutes and 18.70 seconds and Tennessee to book a time of 7 minutes and 33.85 seconds.

The closest margin of the day came when Tennessee and Michigan raced in the 2V8+, Tennessee's shell coxed by Harper Lucas crossed the finish line in 7 minutes and 35.20 seconds while Michigan finished in 7 minutes and 26.80 seconds.

To conclude the Ohio State Invitational, the Lady Vols raced in the fours division against Michigan. The V4+ completed the course in 8 minutes and 37.75 seconds and the 2V4+ finished in 8 minutes and 48.90 seconds.

Once returning to Knoxville, the Lady Vols will take a break from racing and concentrate on training for the next two weeks. Next up for the team will be a trip to Clemson, South Carolina to race in the Clemson Invitational on April 20 and 21.

"Our crews are realizing that what we need to achieve at practice directly correlates to what needs to happen on race day" Glenn explained.

"This wisdom can come from within the team in the form of urgency from the upperclass and fight from the underclass; or - if necessary - it can come from a few tough losses. Regardless, what matters most now, is who we are next time we go to the line as a result of lessons learned along the way and what we make of the training before us now."
