Rowing Starts Strong in Chattanooga

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn.-  The University of Tennessee women's rowing team kicked off the fall season on Saturday at the Chattanooga Head Race, taking home four medals.

In the Collegiate V8+, the team brought home 2 medals in second and third place. Lady Vol shell coxed by Rachel Clagett and including Katie King, Erika Johnson, Nikki Arcamuzi, Arin Anderson, Rachel White, Evelyn Radford, Anita McLure, and Taylor Athan placed second with a time of 16 minutes and 32.15 seconds. Conference-USA foe Alabama placed first with a time of 16 minutes and 29.38 seconds.

Placing third, the Orange and White shell coxed by Jessie Richardson crossed the finish line with a time of 16 minutes and 54.51 seconds and with a time of 17 minutes and 01.52 seconds the shell coxed by Harper Lucas placed fourth. The Lady Vols also had a boat place eighth with a time of 18 minutes and 05.09 seconds coxed by Erin Allen.

In total the Lady Vols competed against 13 boats from The University of Alabama, Georgia Tech, University of Georgia, Emory University, and Northwestern State University.

The final event of the day for the Lady Vols was the women's Collegiate 4+, where the Lady Vols brought home two medals to bring the total medal count to four. Competing against 19 boats, sophomore coxswain Jessie Richardson guided Katie King, Erika Johnson, Nikki Arcamuzi and Arin Anderson to a first-place finish in the four with a time of 18 minutes and 46.75 seconds. The shell including Erin Allen, Katherine Changes, Jennifer Bailey, Liz Dickson, and Victoria Bartell finished second to grab the silver medal. The Lady Vols also placed fourth with a time of 19:47.27, sixth with a time of 20:07.39 and seventh with a time of 20:18.59.

Tennessee now looks ahead to next weekend's Head of the Charles Regatta in Boston, Mass. The Head of the Charles is one of the largest regattas in the world, drawing thousands of spectators each year.
