BOSTON, Mass. - Facing its toughest competition of the fall season, the University of Tennessee women's rowing team finished a program-best tenth in the Championship 8+ competition at the prestigious Head of the Charles in Boston on Sunday.

"The weekend was extremely valuable from an experience standpoint for our squad," said Lady Vol Head Coach Lisa Glenn. "From traveling to a place many of our student-athletes had never visited before to navigating the waters of a very unique waterway for the first time, we had several "firsts" that needed to be taken on and managed. Both crews executed each phase of our plan in Boston and used the experience very well.

UT's boat, comprised of Molly Oellerich, (cox) Katie Bargreen, Lauren Wells, Dana Forbes, Chelsea Pemberton, Andrea Bagwell, McKenzie Craig, Rachel Mayberry, and Beth Schwartz, finished the three-mile course in 12:34.95, ahead of 33 competitors, including shells from Duke University, Stanford and Boston. The ASE Nereus shell claimed the gold, finishing in 12:06.63.

"The Championship 8+ event provided great experience for our crew," said Glenn. "I am proud of the members of this boat for pressing solidly forward into new territory. Three of the first crews to cross the start were national teams from three countries."

Sunday's showing capped off a successful weekend for the Lady Vols, as the Club 8+ shell comprised of Jovanna Vick (Cox) Marissa Allen, Genevieve Collins, Melissa DiCerbo, Heather Hill, Stephanie Williams, Kristen Galloway, Nina Dobratz and Krista Gearing, claimed the silver medal, finishing the course in 13:11.03.

Next weekend, UT will take to the water in Knoxville as it plays host to the Head of the Tennessee on Saturday, Oct. 30.
