CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.

Head Coach Lisa Glenn's Lady Vol rowing team wrapped up its fall season with a strong showing at the Rivanna Romp in Charlottesville, Va., on Sunday, Nov. 16. Tennessee claimed second-place honors in Varsity 4+ and the Novice 8+, while earning bronze medals in the Varsity 8+ and Varsity 2-.

In the day's premier race, the Varsity 8+, UT's crew of Lizzie Brown (cox.), Nicole Bold, Kaitlin Bargreen, Chelsea Pemberton, Lauren Wells, McKenzie Craig, Dana Forbes, Sara Hutcheson and Andrea Bagwell clocked a third-place time of 13:11.8, finishing less than one second behind runner-up Virginia (13:11.0) and just more than four seconds behind victorious Ohio State (13:07.6). The exciting and competitive race is illustrative of the Lady Vols' emergence as a contender on the national scene, as the Buckeyes and the Cavaliers were both participants at the 2003 NCAA Championships. Finishing in 11th place and completing the course in 14:08.2 was Tennessee's "B" shell comprised of Erin Artz (cox.), Marissa Allen, Beth Schwartz, Melissa DiCerbo, Eileen Welsh, Amy McIntosh, Lindsay Jones, Rachel Mayberry and Amy McCormick. The "C" boat, powered by Molly Oellerich (cox.), Holly Holmes, Jaclyn Adams, Diane Samu, Ashley Anders, Ryan Bush, Kathryn Payne, Caitlyn Cleary and Katie Peterson, crossed the line in 14:39.6 and in 17th place.

UT also found success in the Varsity 4+ race, as Artz (cox.), Bold, Bargreen, Pemberton and Wells earned silver medals with a 15:08.3 clocking, while the squad of Brown (cox.), McIntosh, Schwartz, Mayberry and Welsh notched sixth place in 15:33.4. Vick (cox.), Allen, McCormick, DiCerbo and Jones teamed up to finish 11th (16:03.5), and the crew of Oellerich (cox.), Holmes, Adams, Samu and Anders claimed the 18th spot in 16:29.0.

The Lady Vols had two entrants in the Varsity Pair event, and the tandem of Forbes and Craig led the way with a third-place showing (16:31.7). Bagwell and Hutcheson completed the course in 17:06.6 and in 10th place.

In Novice 8+ action, the Lady Vol crew of Ashley Butturini (cox.), Kelly Hoskins, Olivia Marnell, Steppie Williams, Kristen Galloway, Lindsey Kelly, Heather Hill, Katie Weinhold and Laura Barton finished second in 15:07.0, nearly besting the victorious Cavaliers, who completed the course in 15:05.1. Ashley Miller (cox.), Brittany Hunley, Adrienne Long, Cameron Simpson, Michaela McGuire, Shannon Speer, Christine Coakley, Rory Mohon and Brittany Isabelle also performed well, finishing in fifth with a time of 15:45.9.

Sunday's regatta completes Tennessee's highly successful fall season. In addition to the strong showing at the Rivanna Romp, the Lady Vols amassed seven gold medals in the fall and had the program's best-ever performance in the Championship 8+ race at the Head of the Charles, finishing among the top 10 collegiate shells. Also at the worldly renowned regatta, the Club 8+ brought home second-place honors, which marked the third-consecutive year in which Coach Glenn's team has finished in the top two in the race.

The spring season will get underway on March 13 when Notre Dame visits Knoxville. UT will also host races against Minnesota on March 20 and Louisville on March 27.
