Now that we've had a couple days in Florida, we are all getting used to the routine- and the weather. It looks deceivingly warm, as there's still a bit of a cold wind competing with the gorgeous sunshine. To make things feel a little closer to the way they look, we pulled out the pineapple and coconut sunglasses to replace our ordinary matching sunglasses! After rowing with pineapple sunglasses, Laura Miller answers to "Pineapple Millie."
We've been mixing up the rowing by sculling in small boats in the mornings and bringing the technical changes to the mixed 8's in the afternoon. It was exciting to see dolphins a few times playing in the wake! No manatee sightings yet, but we keep hoping. Mary Beth's drenched shirt can attest to our improvements in blade placement, getting more backsplash.
The rowing is going great, with everyone continuing to make changes to keep improving. It is especially exciting to see the learning curve for the novices, working hard to catch up to the varsity, with the varsity continuing to raise the bar while being very supportive of the novices.
While Florida has been a little colder than expected, the team dynamics and impressive progress more than make up for it. I can't wait to see what the rest of the trip brings!
