The Tennessee rowing team begins its 2012 season this weekend at the nearby Oak Ridge Invitational on Melton Hill Lake.
Action begins Saturday at 10 a.m., with an evening portion beginning at 4 p.m. Racing continues Sunday at 10 a.m.
The Lady Vols' lidlifter comes against a tough field of competitors. Other crews at the regatta include Conference USA foes Alabama and Kansas, as well as Virginia, Buffalo, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Duke, Dayton, Notre Dame, Jacksonville and host Louisville.
"I'm excited," Tennessee head coach Lisa Glenn said. "We're as ready as we can be. It's go time so we're really excited to be racing. We expect some fast aggressive racing."
The Lady Vols have been training indoors for most of the winter, since capping off the fall season with two gold medals at the Head of the Hooch Regatta in November. After a very successful campaign in 2011, the team looks to pick up where they left off.
"Sunday morning, we want to look back at some really strong team racing from all of our boats," Glenn said. "This is a team sport and we are really working on getting our crews very strong. If we've met our goals for each race, in each boat category, that will be really good for us."
