Before heading up to Connecticut to take on top-five teams Yale and Brown on Sat., April 28, junior rower Renee Brittle took some time to answer some questions for us here at utladyvols.com. Here's a look at one of the Lady Vols in the Varsity Eight that looks to help Tennessee back into the NCAA Championships.
What is your favorite spot on the UT campus?
The sitting area outside of Humanities because it is the best place to people watch
What is the best book you have ever read?
Anything by Sydney Sheldon
What do you like to do in your spare time?
I like to relax, fish, hunt, mountain bike riding/ camping, anything outdoors, playing with my dog Farley, going to the beach, water skiing, working out, dancing, watching college football and basketball.
What has been your favorite athletic moment at Tennessee?
I have two - Getting 1st at the Head of the Charles in the 2V8 or winning south region last year and getting our first team bid!
If you could invite four people over for dinner, who would they be?
Lance Armstrong, Oprah Winfrey, Family from "Little People Big World", and my boyfriend Stephen
What quote inspires you the most?
Don't follow where the path may lead, instead make a path and leave a trail

What is the best vacation you have ever been on?

My first home run in softball (three-run homer)

What do you do to relieve stress?

What are some routines you use to prepare for a regatta?
I listen to the same songs in order before every race
What goes through your mind when you are rowing?
I am going to cross the finish line first!
Why do you love rowing so much?
I love the competition and getting in a boat with 8 other girls knowing they want it just as much as you and having that row where everything is so perfect it is effortless.
How has coming from an athletic family affected you?
It has made me very driven and my brothers have been good role models and have taught me a lot.
You were quite the athlete in high school. How has your volleyball, softball, and cheerleading experience helped you with rowing?
I was never the top player so I have had to work extra hard. So, my work ethic and drive started in high school and continued through college.
You had quite the quick assimilation to the sport of rowing. What was the one thing that helped you pick up the sport so quickly?
It sounds silly but taking dance for 9 years helped because rowing is very graceful and smooth and requires rhythm like ballet.
What do you think about the opportunity you guys have to row against two top-five programs this weekend?
I think it is a huge opportunity for the Tennessee program. These teams are very well respected and very strong. I think that we can learn a lot by racing these teams and having a schedule this strong makes us a stronger and a faster team!
If you were not competing in rowing, what sport would you pursue?
When you have time to watch TV, what shows do you watch?
