OAK RIDGE, Tenn. - The Tennessee rowing team hits the water of Melton Hill Lake for the third Aramark Central/South Sprints this Saturday and Sunday. The Lady Vols will face off against 22 other squads from the two regions to try and capture its second South Region championship.
In an meet that is a worthy prelude to the NCAA Rowing Championships, which will be hosted by Tennessee on the same Oak Ridge course over May 25-27, nine teams ranked in the USRowing/Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) Division I Varsity Eight Coaches Poll are among the 23 programs that have entered crews into the competition. Four of those hail from the south, including No. 4 Virginia, No. 11 UCF, No. 17 Tennessee and No. 19 Louisville. Three top-10 squads come from the central, including No. 3 Notre Dame, No. 6 Michigan and No. 7 Minnesota.
The Orange and White have six crews entered into the five events. The Open 4+ crew is in the third heat that launches at 9:20 a.m. Two Novice 8+ entries will row on Saturday morning. UT's second N8+ group starts at 9:30 a.m., while the first crew heads down the water at 10 a.m. The Varsity 4+ takes off at 10:30 a.m., while the Second Varsity 8+ will line up against five other competitors at 11:20 a.m. The Varsity 8+ will follow the 2V8+ at 11:30 a.m.
