King Lands on C-USA All-Academic Team

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - Sophomore Katie King has been named to the 2014 C-USA Rowing All-Academic Team, as announced by the conference office Thursday. King was the only sophomore to be named to the 2014 team.

Majoring in Mechanical Engineering, King has maintained a 4.0 GPA during her time on The Hill. She was recognized by the University of Tennessee Athletics Board for academic achievements and also received the 2013-14 C-USA Commissioner's Academic Medal, an awarded given to student-athletes who have acheived a cumulative GPA of 3.75 of better.

King, a native of Longwood, Fla., has rowed with the first varsity eight all season helping the Lady Vols to numerous top-five finishes. Part of the first varsity 8 at the Clemson Invitational placing 6th (7:27.0), 6th (7:11.7) and 5th (7:24.6). Rowed in the Varsity 8+ against UCF, placing first with a time of 6 minutes and 38.5 seconds. At the Head of the Hooch, a rower in Tennessee's 'B' shell to the third place finish with a time of 17 minutes and 54.9 seconds. Part of the Championship 8+ shell that placed fourth at the Head of the Hooch with a time of 16 minutes and 28.4 seconds. also placed fourth in the Open 2- race at the Head of the Hooch with teammate Rachel Whitaker with a time of 18 minutes and 17.6 second.

At Duke, placed seventh with teammate Rachel Whitaker in the A Pairs competition and placed fourth in the A Fours race...Secured the first place spot in the Chattanooga Head Race in the pairs division with teammate Rachel Whitaker with a time of 19 minutes and 51.50 seconds, also part of the collegiate four that placed first at the with a time of 18 minutes and 33.77 seconds.

The C-USA all-academic rowing team consists of student-athletes who have earned a 3.2 cumulative grade point average or better and are a key contributor to their team. This year's squad each compiled a GPA of 3.65 or better, averaging an impressive 3.904.
