KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - University of Tennessee Head Rowing Coach Lisa Glenn announced Monday that Chelsea Pemberton has accepted the position of assistant coach for the rowing program. Pemberton, a 2005 graduate of Tennessee, was a three time CRCA All-American for the Lady Vols having competed from 2002-05.
"Chelsea brings knowledge of and passion for Tennessee Athletics and the values of our rowing program", said Glenn. "She combines this with valuable Division I Coaching and Recruiting experience. I am pleased to bring Chelsea on board, look forward to collaborating with her again and believe she'll be an asset to our student-athletes and to our staff."
Pemberton joins Glenn as part of the Big Orange staff after serving a two-year stint as the novice coach at the University of North Carolina. Before joining the Tarheels Pemberton spent time at Bucknell University (2011-12), handling all aspects of recruiting and serving as the novice coach, and at the University of Alabama as an assistant coach (2009-11).
Prior to being an assistant at Alabama, Pemberton coached at the Smoky Mountain Rowing Center in Maryville from 2008-09, and served as a special education teacher for Knox County Schools from 2006-08.
"I am excited to come back to Tennessee and work to impact student-athletes the way this program impacted me during my collegiate rowing career" expressed Pemberton.
During her time as a Lady Vol, Pemberton was part of three NCAA appearances in the Varsity 8, finishing 16th, 10th and eighth, a program best.
A 2005 graduate of Tennessee, Pemberton earned a Bachelor¹s Degree in English and Creative Writing.
