Rowing Returns at Head of the Hooch

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. ??? The University of Tennessee women???s rowing team travels to Chattanooga on Saturday to compete in the Head of the Hooch Regatta. The Lady Vols are coming off a break from competitive action after a program-best finish at the Head of the Charles Regatta Oct. 21-22.

Both the varsity and novice squads will participate in the regatta which begins with the men???s open 4x race at 9 a.m. on Saturday. The varsity team will field two boats in each of four races: the Championship 8+, Championship 2x, Open 4x and Championship 4+. Meanwhile, the novices will enter four boats into the College and Club Novice 8+ event.

The varsity team???s day will begin with the Open 4x race at 11:20 a.m. followed by the Championship 8+ event at 12:12 p.m. The V8+ shell finished fifth in the Championship race at the Head of the Charles, Tennessee???s best showing at the event in program history.

Later in the afternoon, UT will compete in the Championship 2x and the Championship 4+ events at 3:15 p.m. and 4:40 p.m., respectively. The Open 4x event is at 4:55 p.m.

The novice squad will enter four boats in the College and Club Novice 8+ event. The novices are coming off second, fourth, seventh and ninth place finishes at the Head of the Tennessee Regatta on Oct. 20.

The last time the Lady Vols raced in Chattanooga, they came home with three first-place finishes in four races at the Chattanooga Head Race on Oct. 13. Last year at the Head of the Hooch, UT took home two gold and three silver medals, including a sweep of the top two spots in the Championship 8+ event.
