KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Hannah Wilkinson scored in the 28th minute and freshman goalkeeper Alexis Smith made seven saves as Tennessee and Louisville played to 1-1 tie on Wednesday in an exhibition match at Regal Soccer Stadium.

Wilkinson shook the Louisville goalkeeper inside the box and scored on an open net in the 28th minute. Louisville's Alison Price netted the equalizer in the 42nd minute past a diving Smith.

Tennessee finished with 10 shots to Louisville's 16. The Cardinals managed three corner kicks to UT's two.

Louisville, a 2013 NCAA Tournament team, provided a good test for Tennessee, which is comprised of 16 returning veterans and 16 newcomers. Eight newcomers saw action on Wednesday with Smith playing all 90 minutes in goal and Anna McClung playing 53 minutes and taking five shots.

McClung had a pair of scoring opportunities in the first 15 minutes, with a shot blocked from the top of the box in the fourth minute and another going over the crossbar in the 15th. Freshman Christine Creighton logged 28 minutes off the bench and fired a pair of shots, including one on goal in the 56th minute that was stopped by UofL keeper Paige Brown.

Tennessee officially opens its 2014 season on Aug. 22 against Milwaukee in Madison, Wis. UT's first home match of the season is against BYU on Aug. 29 with SEC Network + carrying that contest. The Volunteers begin SEC play on Sept. 18 with a match at Texas A&M that will be televised on the SEC Network.
