MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The 20th-ranked Lady Vols soccer team dropped its fifth straight match against ranked opponents as they fell, 1-0, to No. 10 West Virginia on Sunday afternoon at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium. The loss moved Tennessee to 0-3 for the first time in the program's 10-year history. The Mountaineers improved to 2-2.

West Virginia scored the match's only goal in the 29th minute when forward Deana Everrett finished off midfielder Ashley Banks' pass back to the center of the box. The goal was Everrett's second of the year.

Both teams played tough defense, with both squads registering just four shots on goal. The Big Orange held a 12-11 advantage overall on shots after taking only four in the first half. Tennessee also held a 4-2 advantage on corner kicks.

Tennessee had their best shot on goal with 18 minutes to go, when freshman forward Jackie Acevedo (Austin, Texas) fired from the right side of the penalty box after Mountaineer keeper Lana Bannerman missed the ball. But WVU's Krystle Kallman made the save with a header just before the ball crossed the line. With six minutes left, junior midfielder Ali Christoph (Columbus, Ohio) shot from 19 yards out, but it sailed wide right.

The loss was UT's fourth straight in road openers. The Lady Vols started their third different starting line-up on the year, with five freshmen making the start in orange and white.

The Lady Vols head to the Virginia Nike Classic to face fourth-ranked Virginia on Friday, Sept. 9 in Charlottesville, Va.
