SEC Championship Post-Match Quotes

Georgia Head Coach Patrick Baker

On the Game:
"First of all, all the credit in the world goes out to Tennessee, they came into the Tournament with their backs against the wall knowing this was their only way into postseason play and they did a fantastic job. We were not really ourselves today, the things that we do which make us great we did not really do well today. That being said, in the end, we had the people that we wanted in the game to win and just could not come up with the result."

On the possibility of making the NCAA Tournament:
"Coming into the weekend we were 9-9-1 and unsure about how we would play into the mix as an at large bid however with a win over South Carolina and Florida we hope that will solidify our chances to receive an at-large bid."

On the play of Megan Tomlinson:
This was really the first game which we have not produced offensively since she moved up top. She scored a goal in each of the first two games of the tournament this week and has really helped to open things up for Carrie (Patterson). Megan is a wonderful player and we have been blessed to have her on our team, she will be a huge loss to our team whenever it is that this season comes to and end."

Tennessee Head Coach Angie Kelly

On their defense:
"I was pleased with our defense the entire game. To Georgia's credit, they started throwing numbers forward at us but we were able to absorb that and were victorious at the end. I am just so proud of this group of young ladys."

On overcoming adversity this season:
"To be perfectly honest, this season has been atypical for us. Win or lose this game, I was proud of how this team has faced adversity. I believe that it doesn't develop character, it reveals it. For this young team to be able to come back from (losing senior Kylee Rossi), it just says loads about them. I hope they take these life lessons. The byproduct is winning but it is all about becoming a winner."

On going to the NCAA Tournament:
"This season has not gone the way I predicted at all. The keys for us were to possess the ball, to have a defensive presence, compete, compete, compete and get back to the old Tennessee ways. Whatever happened, we were going to take the lessons we learned and we were going to take it win or lose. The fact that we are going to the NCAA Tournament is a byproduct of believing in one another and staying positive."

Tennessee player Julie Edwards

On her game winning goal:
"I was really just trying to pressure the ball up top and not let it out of our offensive end. Luckily Tanya (Emerson) was able to steal the ball and slip a nice pass in and I put it away. We really just tried to pressure the ball and it created a scoring opportunity for me."

On coming into the Tournament with their backs against the wall:
"We knew that we had nothing to lose and coach did a good job getting us in that mindset. Kylee Rossi wanted to be out there so bad and that added a little extra motivation, we played for her and for the coaches. I really think for the first time all season each and everyone of us gave 100% throughout the entire weekend."
