KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - Following a 2008 season that saw it claim the SEC Tournament title, the University of Tennessee women's soccer team has compiled a challenging spring schedule in preparation for the 2009 fall campaign. The Lady Vols will take on two familiar foes in West Virginia and conference rival Georgia.
The Orange and White kicks off the spring slate with three scrimmages at Regal Soccer Stadium on March 28. The day will open with a meeting between the Lady Vols and the Mountaineers, a team they have faced three times in the past five years. WVU will then take on Georgia, before the Bulldogs and UT meet in the final match of the day. The last time Tennessee and Georgia met was in the 2008 SEC Tournament final, where the Lady Vols claimed a 1-0 victory and the championship.
The spring schedule continues on April 1, when ETSU makes the trip down to Knoxville for a night game at Regal Stadium. The Lady Vols will then wrap up the spring slate against Carson-Newman on April 9.
After capturing its fourth SEC Tournament title, Tennessee made its eighth consecutive trip to the NCAA Tournament last year. The Lady Vols return eight starters and 19 letterwinners from the 2008 team. Among the returning players are SEC All-Freshman Team selection Chelsea Hatcher and last year's second-leading scorer Devon Swaim.
