Soccer Signee Thestrup Leads Denmark To Win

April 5, 2013

Denmark 1, Scotland 0

LIVINGSTON, Scotland - Tennessee soccer 2013 signee Amalie Thestrup scored the match-winner for Denmark on Thursday to lift the Danes to a 1-0 victory over Scotland in the UEFA Women's Under-19 Championship second qualifying round.

Thestrup, who will join the Lady Vols in 2013, scored the match-winning goal in the 43rd minute. With the first half winding down, the Danish forward gathered the ball on the edge of the box and sent in a shot that bent into the edge of the net.

Denmark will next play Austria on Saturday at 12 p.m. CET (Central European Time) at New Douglas Park in Hamilton, Scotland.

In the second qualifying round of the UEFA Women's Under-19 Championship, 24 teams play in six mini-tournament groups of four. The group winners and runners-up with the best record against the sides first and third in their pool join the hosts at the finals. Denmark is currently 1-0 and in first place of Group 3.

In the final tournament, the contenders are split into two groups of four. The top two advance to the semi-finals with the championship match to follow.
