Baldwin Picked For U.S. U-20 France Trip

CHICAGO -- Incoming Tennessee freshman Carlyn Baldwin has been named to the U.S. Under-20 Women's National Team that will travel to France next month for a pair of matches against the French U-20 squad.

Baldwin and the U.S. U-20 team will play the French on June 10 in Plabennec, France, and again on June 13 in Plougastel, France. Both matches will serve as preparation for the 2014 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup in Canada.

U.S. U-20 head coach Michelle French will bring 20 players the France in what will be the team's final international matches before the FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup. Both the U.S. and France have qualified for the U-20 Women's World Cup. Team USA is in Group B with Germany, Brazil and China PR, while France is in Group D with Paraguay, New Zealand and Costa Rica.

Baldwin is just one of four high school players to join the a U.S. team that returns 17 players from the group that qualified for the U-20 Women's World Cup by winning the CONCACAF championship in January in the Cayman Islands.

After the trip to Europe, the USA will have a final domestic training camp in July before heading north to the 2014 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup which will run from Aug. 5-24 in Edmonton, Moncton, Montreal and Toronto. Players born on or after Jan. 1, 1994, are age-eligible for the tournament. Twenty-one players 21 will make the Women's World Cup Team.

"The chance to play against one of the top U-20 teams in the world prior to the World Cup is an incredible opportunity," French said. "The experience and knowledge we'll gain from these two games against France will push us to sharpen our focus and drive even more as we continue to grow as a team in these final stages of preparation for the World Cup."
