KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- The Tennessee soccer team hosts Louisville for an exhibition match tonight at 5 p.m. at Regal Soccer Stadium.
Admission for tonight's exhibition and all of Tennessee soccer's 2014 regular-season home matches is free of charge.
Tonight's contest will provide a strong test for Tennessee, which returned 16 players from last year's squad and added 16 newcomers. UT's returners include All-SEC defender Allie Sirna and 2012 NSCAA All-American Hannah Wilkinson. Tennessee graduated its leading scorer from 2013 in Caroline Brown (eight goals).
Louisville was a very formidable team in 2013, posting a 12-5-2 record and finishing its season in the NCAA Tournament First Round after tying Illinois State, 1-1, and coming up short on penalty kicks, 4-3. The Cardinals return several key veterans, such as forward Casey Whitfield (six goals, six assists) and forward Shannon Dennehey (five goals, three assists). UofL graduated its top two scorers from last season in Charlyn Corral (13 goals) and Christine Exeter (nine goals).
Tennessee officially opens its 2014 season on Aug. 22 against Milwaukee in Madison, Wis. UT's first home match of the season is against BYU on Aug. 29 with SEC Network + carrying that contest. The Volunteers begin SEC play on Sept. 18 with a match at Texas A&M that will be televised on the SEC Network.
