LLANELLI, Wales -- Tennessee freshman Amalie Thestrup and her Denmark U19 team took a 1-0 win over host nation Wales on Monday in the first match of the 2013 UEFA Women's Under -19 Championship final tournament.
The match was played at Parc Y Scarlets Monday morning. Denmark and Wales are both in Group A. The Danes will next face France on Thursday, Aug. 22, at 2 p.m. ET before concluding group play on Sunday, Aug. 25, against England.
Nioline Frandsen scored in the 61st minute to give Denmark the 1-0 lead. Anna Fisker took a free kick near a corner flag and six player lined up on the edge of the box. Running towards the near post, Frandsen turned the ball in.
Thestrup entered the game in the 78th minute for Camilla Andersen. In the 83rd minute, she had a shot blocked.
