LLANELLI, Wales -- Tennessee's Amalie Thestrup and her Denmark U-19 team suffered a 3-1 loss to France on Thursday in Group A play of the UEFA European Women's Under-19 Championship final tournament.
The match was held at Stebonheath Park in Llanelli, Wales. With three points, Denmark currently trails England and France in Group A (both have four points). The Danes will next face England on Aug. 25 at 4 p.m. CET/10 a.m. ET.
The top two teams from each group advance to the semifinals, which will be played on Aug. 28. The final is Aug. 31.
Denmark took a 1-0 lead in the eighth minute when Nikoline Frandsen scored off a penalty shot. France quickly responded two minutes later when Lea Declercq netted the equalizer as Denmark struggled to clear a corner kick. France pulled ahead in the 17th minute when Sandie Toletti punched one in on a deflected cross from her right wing. In the 26th minute, the French scored a third goal when Claire Lavogez drove one home from the edge of the box.
Thestrup played 14 minutes, entering the game in the 76th minute.
