BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Tennessee Lady Vol soccer fans will have up to four chances to catch the Big Orange live on the tube during the 2009 campaign according to the release of the Southeastern Conference women's soccer television schedule.
UT will battle Ole Miss live in Knoxville on ESPNU (Oct. 11th, at 3 p.m. ET), marking the program's initial appearance on one of the ESPN family of networks. The Lady Vols will also appear live on Comcast Sports Southeast (CSS) in road contests at Kentucky (Oct. 4th at 2 p.m. ET) and at Alabama (Oct. 25th at 2 p.m. ET). Tennessee fans residing in West Virginia will have a special opportunity to see their Lady Vol soccer squad in action as UT's contest against the Mountaineers, slated for Sept. 20th at 1 p.m. ET in Morgantown, West Va., will be shown in-state on the West Virginia Public Broadcasting System (WVPBS).
In all, 14 matches featuring the league's member schools will be broadcast via the airwaves (ESPNU, Fox Sports South or CSS) this year, by far the most during a single season in SEC soccer history.
The Orange & White has seen a great deal of success on television during the program's 14-year history, boasting a 21-6-1 mark (.768) in 28 all-time appearances on the tube. UT split a pair of matches on Fox Sports South during the 2008 campaign, dropping a 2-0 decision to Georgia during the regular season before exacting revenge over the Bulldogs in the SEC Tournament Championship Game with a 1-0 victory to secure the program's fourth league event title.
Tennessee (1-2-0) ventures out on the road this weekend for the first time in 2009, facing a pair of Big Ten Conference foes in nationally-ranked Minnesota and Wisconsin. UT opens action at Robbie Stadium in Minneapolis, Minn., on Friday at 8 p.m. ET against the home-standing Golden Gophers before closing its stay on Sunday with a 12:30 p.m. ET contest versus the Badgers.
