KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- After helping Tennessee shut down No. 20 Texas A&M on Friday, junior defender Allie Sirna was named to the TopDrawerSoccer.com Team of the Week for the second time this season on Tuesday.
Tennessee (6-2-1, 1-0 SEC) took a 1-0 home win over the No. 20 Aggies (5-3-1, 0-1 SEC) on Friday. Sirna played a critical role in Tennessee's stalwart defense against Texas A&M, stonewalling the Aggies for the full 90 minutes in the middle of the back line. Sirna broke up several Texas A&M balls played into the UT third, forcing the Aggies to work the outside and severely limiting their shot selection. Entering Friday's game, Texas A&M boasted a .463 shot-on-goal percentage. Sirna and the UT back line allowed just four of 15 A&M shots on goal, a .267 SOG percentage.
Sirna is the only UT field player to play every single minute of the 2013 season and she has played 20 consecutive complete matches dating back to last season.
This week's honors marks the third time that Sirna has been recognized by TopDrawerSoccer.com and the second time in 2013. On Sept. 10, she was named to the TDS Team of the Week after leading the UT defense to a pair of 2-0 wins against Dayton and Mercer. She was previously named to the TDS Team of the Week on Aug. 27, 2012, after UT posted shutout wins over William & Mary and VCU.
Tennessee hits the road this week, playing at LSU on Sept. 27 and at Alabama on Sept. 29. The UT-Alabama match will be televised on CSS. The Big Orange returns to Regal Soccer Stadium on Oct. 4 to host Ole Miss and the first 750 fans will receive a free Tennessee Soccer flag.
