BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - After making her first career collegiate goal count by registering the match-winner at 27:52 during Sunday's 1-0 victory at Kentucky, Tennessee Lady Vol soccer player Amy Harrison has been chosen as the Southeastern Conference's Freshman of the Week for Oct. 5th.
The Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, native joins UT senior forward Mick Imgram (SEC Offensive Player of the Week, Sept. 14th) and junior goalkeeper Molly Baird (SEC Defensive Player of the Week, Sept. 7th) as Big Orange soccer honorees to this point in the 2009 campaign.
With Sunday's contest versus the Wildcats scoreless midway through the opening stanza, Harrison received a cross from the right wing by sophomore midfielder Lara Langworthy. Standing about eight yards from frame in the middle of the penalty area, the 5-6 midfielder settled the ball, turned briskly and hammered a shot just inside the left post to grant Tennessee a vital 1-0 advantage. Harrison now owns a goal and an assist on 14 total shots during her initial campaign clad in the Orange & White.
After five straight matches away from the friendly confines of Regal Soccer Stadium, the Tennessee Lady Vol soccer team returns to Knoxville this weekend, battling Mississippi State on Friday night at 7 p.m. ET and Ole Miss live on ESPNU at 3 p.m. ET on Sunday. Live stats will be available for both matches via Gametracker and web-streamed video will be provided for the MSU contest through utladyvols.com.
