KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - University of Tennessee women's soccer player Kylee Rossi was named to the Soccer Buzz National Elite Team of the Week on Thursday. The senior forward broke the Lady Vols career points record while totaling two goals and an assist in last weekend's wins over then-No. 15 LSU and Arkansas. The selection marks Rossi's third all-time and first of the season.
In the 2-1 victory over the Tigers, Rossi scored the game winner, pushing her to 89 career points on 37 goals and 15 assists. With the goal, Rossi took over the top spot on Tennessee's career points list, surpassing former Lady Vol Rhian Wilkinson's record of 88 set in 2003. The Pennington, N.J., native is now the career record holder in five categories: points, goals, shots, game winners and golden goals.
Even with the new record, the team's leading scorer wasn't finished for the weekend. In Sunday's 2-0 win over the Razorbacks, Rossi posted a season-high three points on a goal and an assist. In the 49th minute, the senior forward dished a ball to sophomore forward Devon Swaim who scored the eventual game winner. Rossi capped her day with the insurance goal, putting away a cross from junior midfielder Mick Imgram in the 62nd minute.
Following the weekend performance, Rossi's eight goals lead the Southeastern Conference, while her 17 points put her in a tie for first in the league. The two wins marked the first back-to-back victories of the season for the Lady Vols who have now won 13 of their last 14 matches at home. UT has allowed just two goals in the last 11 matches at home and is 4-1-0 at Regal Stadium in 2008.
This weekend, Rossi and the rest of the Lady Vols will close out their season-long four-match homestand. Tennessee will play host to Kentucky on Friday night at 7 p.m. before welcoming in-state rival Vanderbilt on Sunday at 2 p.m.
