AS A FRESHMAN (2004):

Batted .288 on the campaign with 18 runs, six RBI and four two-baggers...Was positioned at .258 (8-for-31) in 24 SEC games...Saw action in three NCAA Regional contests for the Lady Vols as a pinch-runner and crossed the plate twice...Suffered a broken thumb scoring the winning run in the 1-0 conquest of No. 12 Florida on April 18 and was reduced to pinch-running for the next few weeks before going 0-for-2 against Appalachian State on May 11...Scored all three times she was called upon in the Georgia series...Was 1-for-7 (.143) against the Gators but was one of the heroines when she raced home on Mandie Fishback's suicide squeeze during the international tiebreaker in the 10th inning...Served as a runner against 23rd-ranked Auburn and scored in the finale on Amber Rhinehart's single up the middle...Pinch-ran twice versus the Gamecocks and scored both times...Went 0-for-3 during UT's home tournament...Came through with a crucial pinch-hit RBI single in the second win over Mississippi State...Delivered a two-run single in the first inning to jump-start UT's offense against Georgia Southern...Did contribute a double in the third game of the set...Announced her presence to the SEC by going 3-for-4 in the first start of her league career against No. 3 LSU...Stroked a couple of singles and had a double against the Tigers...Achieved all-tourney status for the first time in her Lady Vol tenure with a smoking .500 (5-for-10) showing in Waco, Texas...Managed at least one hit over the final four outings at the event...Sent the Orange into the championship game with a ninth-inning double versus Louisiana Tech on Feb. 28 that plated classmate Brittany Bessho...Went 2-for-3 and scored a run in the 6-0 romp over Lipscomb...Came across with lone run in the 8-1 setback to Baylor...Had taken over the starting duties at second base, but then made her first career start in right field during the second tilt with ETSU...Singled in her only at bat on Feb. 25 and also tied a Lady Vol record by being plunked twice in the same game...The last time a UT player was hit by a pitch twice occurred on April 26, 2000, when Annie Fletcher found herself on the wrong end of tosses from Tennessee Tech...Did not commit an error in 10 chances at the Palm Springs Classic...Went 1-for-7 (.143) at the dish and scored the winning run against Baylor...Made collegiate debut in New Mexico and saw time in all five Lady Vol games...Delivered a pinch-hit single against NMSU with a liner through the left side of the infield on Feb. 16...Came across with a run against Southwest Missouri State in chilly temperatures the previous night...In her first plate appearance, as a pinch hitter versus Boston University, Ashley got a hit with the bases loaded in the third inning...UT would put three runs on the board in that frame on its way to a 9-0 romp over the Terriers.

HIGH SCHOOL:

Was a four-time letterwinner in softball at Gallatin High School who captained the squad every season...Achieved all-district and all-county four straight times...Took home her club's Offensive Most Valuable Player award as a sophomore, junior and senior... As a junior, Ashley, hit an eye-popping .586 with a .688 slugging percentage and 17 extra-base hits with 12 RBI in just 20 games...In addition, she batted a whopping .458 with a slugging percentage of .690 and drove in 20 runs for her summer team, the Wild Things, whom she led to the 2002 ASA State Championship...Her Nighthawks AAU Team earned a runner-up finish at the 2001 event...Also earned a pair of varsity letters in soccer and track while captaining each team....Holds school records in the 100-meter hurdles, the long jump and was part of the 4x100-meter relay contingent which posted the lowest time...Member of the National Honor Society, the Future Farmers of America and Vocational Industrial Clubs of America (VICA) while at GHS...Served as captain of both her school's canned food and magazine drives.

Enrolled in the College of Arts & Sciences...Regards her parents as influences because they have pushed her beyond limitations to make her the best she can be...Considers biggest thrill in athletics as slugging four home runs in one game...Enjoys horseback riding...Superstitions include avoiding black cats, not walking under ladders and performing the same routine before each at bat...Has a younger sister, Tuesday, 10...Ashley Nicole Cline was born Sept. 28, 1984, in Hendersonville, Tenn....Her parents are Miles and Rita Cline.
