AS A FRESHMAN (2008):

Spent the season among the Southeastern Conference leaders in victories and led the Lady Vols from the circle with a 27-5 record and a 1.88 ERA while recording 187 strikeouts in 204.1 innings of work...Her efforts earned her a selection to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-South Region Team...Fired four complete-game one-hitters in wins over #20 Oregon (2/9), Louisiana-Monroe (2/23), ETSU (4/2) and #14 LSU (4/19)...Punched out a career-high 11 batters in downing ETSU on April 2...Among her other high-profile victories were two wins over #14 LSU (4/20) and single triumphs against BYU (2/21), Auburn (3/29), Ole Miss (4/16) and Mississippi State (4/26)...Struck out eight Razorbacks in just 3.2 innings at Arkansas (3/22)...Also K'ed nine versus Louisiana-Monroe and Tennessee Tech (3/5)...Worked all nine frames of a 2-0 league victory at South Carolina (3/19), permitting two hits while striking out five...Following the initial weekend of her collegiate career, Ward was honored by both USA Softball and the NFCA as the National Collegiate Player of the Week and by the SEC as its Pitcher and Freshman of the Week (2/11)...During that five-game career-opening stretch in Cathedral City, Calif., the 6-0 righty downed two ranked Pacific-10 teams in #20 Oregon (complete-game one-hitter) and #18 Oregon State and tallied a perfect 3-0 record with a 0.00 ERA and 15 strikeouts in 16 innings...Selected as a member of the NFCA Scholar-Athlete Team.

HIGH SCHOOL:

A pitcher boasting a 3.6+ GPA and numerous honor roll selections at Butler High School in Charlotte, N.C., Ward's star shone brightly both on the softball diamond and the basketball court...Ward was named to the 2006 & 2007 EA SPORTS All-American Softball teams and a 2007 Louisville Slugger/National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) High School All-American and All-South Region...Chosen as the Gatorade Player of the Year for North Carolina for 2006-07...Three-time Charlotte Observer and Charlotte Weekly Player of the Year as well as the 2006 Western North Carolina Player of the Year and the N.C. State Tournament Most Valuable Player...Boasts an overall record of 58-1 in the circle with ERA's of 0.00 in both 2004 and 2005, a 0.02 ERA in 2006 and a 0.28 ERA in 2007...During the '07 campaign, she led her team to its second consecutive Class 4A North Carolina state title by winning tourney Most Valuable Player honors after striking out 44 batters over three games and 13 in the finale...Posted a 26-0 record from the circle in '07 with 360 strikeouts in 170 innings for a K-per-7 inn. mark of 14.8...Her efforts helped the Bulldogs finish at No. 6 in the Student Sports FAB 50 final rankings...The undefeated season was her third consecutive at Butler...A four-time first-team all-state, all-conference and all-Mecklenburg County choice in North Carolina, she was also solid at the dish by posting batting averages for four consecutive seasons over .412 with a high in 2006 of .508 while guiding her team to four conference regular-season and tournament championships...On the hardwood, the 6'0" Ward was chosen as the '06 Offensive Player of the Year while leading her hoops squad to a conference title...She was also an all-conference basketball selection as well as the Butler H.S. Team MVP in 2005...She has guided her Carolina Lady Blues summer ball program to three ASA 18U-Gold National Tournament berths as well as ASA State and National Qualifier titles in 2005.
