KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - In a pitcher's duel on Rocky Top, No. 3/2 Tennessee scored with two outs in the seventh thanks to heads-up baserunning by Megan Geer to defeat Campbell, 1-0, on Friday night at Sherri Parker Lee Stadium.
Ellen Renfroe (11-0) was electric in the circle once again for Tennessee (19-1), striking out 12 over seven shutout innings and allowing just two hits and one walk. She had a perfect game for the first 4.2 innings. Campbell's Courtney Roberts (3-3) allowed four hits, fanned two and walked six over seven innings in the loss. UT improved to 3-0 against Campbell (13-10) all-time.
In the bottom of the seventh inning, Geer singled through the left side and a Madison Shipman walk gave Annie Aldrete the opportunity for a walk-off hit. Aldrete hit the ball to Campbell third baseman Brittany Bruce and Geer advanced on the basepaths to third before smartly making a double move back to second to make Bruce consider chasing her in a rundown. Nesbitt took the bait , advancing towards Geer, then rushing her throw to first base and overthrowing teammate Bailey Bjorson. The throwing error allowed Geer to round third and head home for the winning score.
Shipman led the Lady Vols, going 2-for-3 with two doubles. She stretched her hit streak to 17 games. Geer and Melissa Davin each had one hit as well.
