BATON ROUGE, La. -- Madison Shipman crushed a two-run homer in the first inning, Annie Aldrete hit a three-run bomb in the sixth and Ellen Renfroe tossed six shutout innings to lead No. 2 Tennessee to a 9-0, six-inning win over LSU on Sunday.
Tennessee (32-5, 9-3 SEC) scored two in the first, one in the third, three in the fourth and three in the sixth. LSU(22-16, 4-8) managed just three hits in the game.
Shipman finished 2-for-3 with a pair of RBIs hits in a two-run homer and an RBI single and scored twice. Megan Geer was 20for02 with two RBIs, two runs, two walks and a stolen base. Shaliyah Geathers had a hit and a walk and scored twice.
Renfroe (22-2) was strong in the circle, striking out two over six scoreless innings.
Ashley Czechner took the loss and fell to 7-9 after allowing three earned runs over 2.1 frames. Baylee Corbello gave up six earned runs over 3.2 innings in relief.
Tennessee took a 2-0 lead in the first inning. Geer knocked a one-out single through the left side and Shipman drilled a 3-1 pitch from Ashley Czechner onto the hill on the other side of the left field fence for a two-run homer. The home run was Shipman's team-leading ninth on the season.
Shipman came up big once again in the third inning, driving in another run to push UT's lead to 3-0. Geathers hit a one-out infield single and Geer drew a walk to give the Lady Vols two runners aboard. Shipman delivered on a full count, ripping an RBI single up the middle to plate Geathers.
The Lady Vols added three more runs in the top of the fourth. With two outs, Lexi Overstreet drew a walk, Rainey Gaffin knocked a single to left field and Geathers drew a walk to load the bases. Geer connected for a two-RBI single to left field and advanced on the throw. Shipman drew a four-pitch walk and a wild pitch allowed Geathers to motor home and score UT's sixth run.
With two outs and two on in the top of the sixth, Aldrete crushed an 0-1 pitch over the wall in straightaway center field for a three-run home run to give Tennessee a 9-0 lead. The home run was Aldrete's eighth on the year.
Tennessee next hosts Tennessee Tech on April 8 at 6 p.m. ET at Sherri Parker Lee Stadium. The Lady Vols resume SEC play next weekend at Texas A&M from April 11-13.
