KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- After holding Charleston Southern scoreless for five innings, the Lipscomb Bison (40-14) knocked out the Buccaneers (27-33-1) with a 4-2 victory in Game 5 of the Knoxville Regional on Saturday.
Ashley Anderson (20-7) earned the win, allowing six hits while striking out four. Jennifer Giles (11-13) took the loss for CSU, allowing six hits, one earned run, and retiring four LU batters through 6.1 innings pitched.
The Bison was led by Mimi Cartwright and Dee Baddley who each went 2-for-3 on the day.
LU jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the first inning, thanks to an unearned run from Brittany Elmore. The Bison notched another run from Elmore in the top of the sixth inning, as the sophomore reached first on an error. She stole second and was able to bring in the second run from a single by Paige Neely.
Charleston Southern responded with two runs in the bottom of the sixth to tie it up 2-2.
Lipscomb's Kristen Sturdivant homered to center field to give LU a 3-2 advantage at the top of the seventh. Junior Jordan Abell scored one more for the Bison as they went up 4-2, and eventually claimed the ball game.
LU will face Virginia Tech in Game 6 of the Knoxville Regional.
