KNOXVILLE, Tenn. --
Haley Elliott homered twice and drove in six runs to lead Lipscomb over Virginia Tech, 12-3, eliminating the Hokies and landing the Bisons into the Knoxville regional championship series.
Lipscomb (41-14) will take on No. 10 overall seed Tennessee (44-10) to decide who advances to the NCAA super regionals. The matchup is scheduled for 2 p.m. Should Lipscomb win, the final game of the Knoxville regional will begin at 4:30 p.m. UT enters out of the winners bracket (2-0), needing to win just one game to land a spot in its seventh super regional.
The Bisons never trailed in its second meeting in as many days against Virginia Tech (36-22). Brianne Welch tripled in the first run in the top of the third and Lipscomb scored twice to take a 2-0 lead. VT responded with two in the bottom of the inning to tie the game.
Elliott put Lipscomb back on top in the fourth. Rena Cothron led off the inning with a single and Elliott hit her first homer of the game for a 4-2 Bisons advantage. She was responsible for Lipscomb's next run in the fifth as well, singling in Paige Neely.
The Bisons blew the game wide with a seven-run seventh. Elliott highlighted the outburst with her second blast of the game, blasting a three-run bomb to left center.
