Tennessee Head Coach Ralph Weekly
"I'm happy with the win. I told our team without (Kristi) Durant and (Jennifer) Griffin and (Danielle) Pieroni, who was just cleared Friday, we had three big hitters out of our lineup, but somebody else steps in. (Pointing to Sarah Fekete, Katherine Card, and Monica Abbott) It's all them. My hat's off to them."
On Katherine Card's RBI
"I called her in for a conference and told her to move back in the box. She's a great hitter and is clutch at tournament time."
On facing Michigan next weekend in Super Regional
"We played Michigan twice last year. I know coaches say this a lot, but they have an outstanding coaching staff. Jennifer Brundage was an assistant for Karen and I at Chattanooga. They're strong defensively. They've been to the College World Series and won it. Basically, they've got the same team back this year except for a couple of hitters. I thought they should have been seeded much higher. You've got Monica Abbott, Jenny Ritter, Sarah Fekete--all these great players. It should be a real treat. With teams that finished first and third last year, there's a good chance that this will be on ESPN. It will be a great atmosphere here for sure."
Pitcher Monica Abbott
On the potential for a perfect game
"When you're pitching, you don't think about a no-hitter or perfect game. You don't want to give up a hit anytime, even moreso in the seventh inning, because that gives the other team momentum."
"I don't even think about a perfect game. I just take one pitch at a time."
On the possibility of facing Michigan in the Super Regional next weekend
"No matter who we play, we'll be motivated to go after them. We have nothing to lose because we will be playing to go to the College World Series."
On fan support
"The crowd pumps you up in general. That helps the team play together. It's like the other team having nine against your 5,000."
Center Fielder Sarah Fekete
On Monica Abbott coming close to a perfect game
"I'll say it. It is a big deal. Monica Abbott is one of the best pitchers in the game. Just because she gets no-hitters all the time doesn't mean that it loses its value."
"We had a solid defense behind Monica. She was throwing great. We were just looking to make plays."
On fan support
"The crowd support was great. I think they stopped letting people in, there were that many people."
Right Fielder Katherine Card
"I just focused on getting a hit. The first run across helps the team out. The way Monica was throwing today, nobody was touching her."
On fan support
"That certainly is a change from our freshman year."
Louisville Head Coach Sandy Pearsall
"(You've) gotta tip your hats off to Tennessee; they played a great game. Monica Abbott pitched a great game, and their defense was really solid. They made some great plays."
On Louisville's defense
"We certainly didn't help ourselves much."
On how valuable this experience will be for the future
"I think it's great. Any time you can go into the postseason when you are playing quality teams all the time helps. People don't get into regionals unless you have a quality program all year long. It is an opportunity to see good pitching, see good hitters and good defense. Your team will grow and gain experience from that. It is a bonus in every area. We are pleased that we got this far, disappointed for not having the opportunity to go to a super regional. We will work harder next year and hopefully get past this point."
On Tennessee's chances the remainder of the postseason
"I think they have a great chance. They have one of the best offenses in the country, that is going to be tough for a lot of teams. Obviously, they have pitching. They have the full package there. It is hard to find weaknesses in their team. I would say their chances of getting back to the College World Series would be great. I think they have a tough match-up with Michigan. They are certainly a quality team too. I think that will be a great matchup. At that point, the game can go either way. Tennessee is in a good position. They are very solid all the way around."
Pitcher Catherine Bishop
On if fatigue was a factor
"I was fine. I think if you looked at the velocity, it stayed the same. I felt fine today. That's why we do all of the fitness stuff., lifting weights, etc. We have worked hard this season to stay fit, so we have the ability to do those things."
Third Baseman Audrey Rendon
On playing third base against a team with multiple slap hitters like Tennessee
"It is hard to defend because they can always drop it in front of you or drive it past you. You have to be on your toes. It was pretty tough. I like a challenge though. I enjoyed it."
On facing Monica Abbott
"Obviously we didn't make adjustments in the box. She has some good pitches. She threw well. Not much else to say about that."
On what type of adjustments the team needed to make
"Just have to stay in there and see the ball."
