TENNESSEE VS. STANFORD - POST GAME QUOTES

May 27, 2005

Recap |  Box Score

Tennessee head coach Ralph Weekly

"It was a great game. Stanford is a great team. We knew this was going to be a challenge. It was a classic fastpitch softball game. We certainly know that it will be a battle tomorrow. We have no seniors on this team so everything we learn from this experience will help us grow."

Monica Abbott, Tennessee pitcher - problems with the mound

"There was some Indian clay on the mound and since it hadn't been pitched on early in the game it was very hard and it was hard for me to get a good push off the mound."

"It is always important to jump out and win the first game and set the tone."

"I used a variety of pitches tonight to help us be successful"

Lindsay Schutzler, Tennessee shortstop

"We are always looking to score first. The leadoff walk was big for us. It worked out well because our team executed every step of the process to score the runner."

Lindsay - on being home

"Me and Monica filled the entire pass list by ourselves. The weather is great and being here was nice for us. It was nice having somewhat of a hometown crowd."

Katherine Card, Tennessee leftfielder - on the homerun

"She gave me a good pitch to hit. I saw what I wanted and I did with it what I could. I had to battle as well and fight off some pitches."

Stanford head coach John Rittman - opening statement

" We came up on the short end of the stick tonight. I am proud of our team. Their good pitching kept us off balance all night. If we had gotten a couple of timely hits it would have been a different game"

Becky McCullough, Stanford pitcher

"I went out there wanting to get ahead and throw strikes. I know that our defense will make the plays when I kept it on the ground"

on the homerun..."It was a drop ball that she went down and got"

Lauren Lappin, Stanford shortstop

"The fact that she has a full arsenal of pitches helps her out. She is left handed and that is something that kept us off balance."

"She is a strike out pitcher and I believe she is the top strike out pitcher in the country. We need to lay off the rise ball and be aggressive and patient when she puts the ball in the zone."

Coach Rittman

"Lindsay is a great lead off hitter for them. She got on twice and put pressure on our defense."

"The biggest thing is that each player needs to make adjustments from at bat to at bat."

"We need to stay positive and lay off her rise." We missed a couple today. Catalina and Michelle almost hit one out"
