Game 12: Tennessee 2, Michigan 0 (11 Innings)
TENNESSEE CO-HEAD COACH Karen Weekly
"I'm just a little overwhelmed right now. It was a great fastpitch game and I'm really proud of Monica (Abbott). It was an extremely gutsy performance after throwing a tough game earlier today. I'm proud of our girls and I think the pride we take in our defense really showed tonight. We had to make a lot of defensive plays and (Tonya) Callahan's defense at first base was phenomenal tonight. It was a great team effort by everyone to pitch in someway for the win tonight."
"Michigan is a great team. I know it's going to be a battle tomorrow at noon."
TENNESSEE SOPHOMORE Monica Abbott
On the long game:
"Everything just kept going by, honestly. Finally, when we came in (during the 11th inning) I told them we needed to finish this so we could go home and rest and get ready for tomorrow. (Tonya) Callahan came through and we're happy about that."
"We knew Michigan was a really aggressive team at the plate. We threw a lot of different things at them and tried to mix it up to throw them off balance. We were trying to get them to hit the ball badly and let our defense take care of it."
TENNESSEE FRESHMAN Tonya Callahan
On her two-run walk-off home run in the 11th:
"I don't think I got a very good pitch. I can't even remember what pitch I hit, but I knew I had two strikes on me and I had to go up there swinging the bat. I just hit what was given to me."
MICHIGAN HEAD COACH CAROL HUTCHINS
"It was a great softball game. Both pitchers were fabulous. I thought Monica Abbott was fabulous, but so was Jennie Ritter. They got the big hit, but we couldn't come up with it. We did not move our runners, and we never got the big hit. That's just the name of the game."
On what she will tell her team before tomorrow's rematch against Tennessee:
"Play to win. We can still win the tournament. We just have to stay in the moment and play one inning at a time. And obviously, we need to find a way to get to (Monica) Abbott."
On preparing her team for tomorrow's game in a short amount of time:
"It will be difficult. But my team will come back. They'll be ready to play. I'm certain of that."
MICHIGAN JUNIOR JENNIE RITTER
On her pitch to Tonya Callahan in the 11th:
"It was a rise ball that didn't rise as high as I wanted. I had been throwing rise balls that weren't as high as I normally throw them."
On tomorrow's rematch against Tennessee:
"We don't give up. Like Coach said, we'll come out ready tomorrow. We'll leave it all on the field because that's what we've been taught."
