KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - The Tennessee softball team opens the doors to Lee Softball Stadium on Sunday, Jan. 27, to host its third annual open house and "Meet Your Seats" for fans. The Big Orange's supporters will have the chance to tour the facility and scope out their 2013 season ticket seats.
The open house and meet and greet will run from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., starting with tours of the facility that include access to the UT clubhouse, press box area and dugout. Season ticket holders will have the opportunity to view their current softball season ticket seats. Non-season ticket holders can check out open seat options available for purchase as well. Season tickets can be purchased through UTTIX.com. Chairback seats are currently sold out, but bleacher seats are still available.
The Tennessee coaching staff will speak to the fans at 1:30 p.m. and the coaches and student-athletes will be available for autograph signing from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. Free parking will be available next to the facility.
"`Meet Your Seats' is a great event for our fans to meet the team and take tours of the stadium and clubhouse," Tennessee co-head coach Karen Weekly said. "They also have an opportunity to purchase season tickets and pick their seats. We have a very loyal and enthusiastic fan base for Lady Vol softball and we love to interact with them personally any chance we get. It's a great day to say `thank you' to our awesome fans for their dedicated support of our program."
Tennessee is coming off a 52-14 season in 2012 and its fifth Women's College World Series appearance in the last eight years. This spring, the Lady Vols return all four of their 2012 Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-Americans in Lauren Gibson, Ellen Renfroe, Raven Chavanne and Madison Shipman.
UT finished the 2012 season ranked fifth in the ESPN.com/USA Softball poll and sixth in the USA Today/NFCA Division I poll. UT led the nation in fielding percentage (.982) and ranked eighth in win percentage (.788). The Lady Vols' pitchers also combined for the 11th-best ERA in the country (1.58).
The 2013 Lady Vols feature 13 returning letterwinners and six exciting freshmen. Tennessee's freshman class features three 2012 ESPN 100 players in outfielder Rainey Gaffin (ranked No. 16), catcher Lexi Overstreet (No. 45) and pitcher Erin Gabriel (No. 71).
UT opens the 2013 season on Feb. 7 against Southern Utah in the Red Desert Classic in St. George, Utah. The Lady Vols open their home slate against Lipscomb on Feb. 26 at 5 p.m.
