#23 India Chiles
2004-07 | OF | 5-6 | R/R | Louisville, Kentucky.
Chiles was one of the most dependable hitters to play for the Lady Vols, a legendary speedster and one of the best slap hitters in history the game. She finished her UT career with a .417 career average, 204 hits, 157 runs, 29 RBIs, 1 doubles, two triples and 85 stolen bases. In 2004 as a freshman, Chiles scored 21 runs in 43 games, serving as a pinch runner. Her breakout year was as a sophomore in 2005, when she was fourth on the team with a .353 batting average, recording 48 hits, 31 runs, and 17 stolen bases. Chiles was even better as a junior in 2012 as she ranked second in the SEC with a .437 batting average, started 56 of 65 games, stole 19 bases and scored 48 runs. Chiles delivered one of her best performances at the 2006 Women's College World Series, going 2-4 and scoring 2 runs to upset #1 UCLA. Chiles earned NFCA First Team All-American honors as a senior in 2007 when she hit .459 with 87, 57 runs, 16 RBIs and 44 stolen bases. She tallied 27 multi-hit games that year and hit a whopping .544 in SEC play en route to being named SEC Player of the Year. She ranks in the top 10 in several Lady Vol career record categories, including batting average (second), stolen bases (t-sixth), on-base percentage (seventh) and runs (10th). Chiles has been mentioned as an inspiration and reason for choosing Tennessee by several of speedy Lady Vol slappers who came after her.
