Softball Embraces Fans at Meet Your Seats

Jan. 28, 2013

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - On Sunday, the Tennessee softball team opened its doors to the fans at Lee Stadium for the Lady Vols' annual "Meet Your Seats" event.

About 500 fans showed up to tour the stadium, scope out season ticket seats and get autographs from the 2013 Lady Vols.

"It's really nice to have sell-out games," co-head coach Ralph Weekly said. "We had them in 2012 for our last SEC games and we had them for the postseason. I think it's really important for the girls to see this kind of support. We had about 500 people here with a lot of kids and a lot of fun."

Fans were also treated to a video presentation in the team's video room and co-head coaches Ralph Weekly and Karen Weekly spoke to the crowds about the upcoming season. The players enjoyed the flood of support and well wishes offered by fans during the autograph signing.

"I feel like every year this event just keeps getting bigger and bigger," junior and two-time Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-American Ellen Renfroe said. "It's really exciting, especially for some of the younger girls as freshmen to see what they're coming into and what a great family of support that we have. It just adds to the excitement of starting the season."

UT returns 13 players from last season's squad and welcomes six exciting newcomers. The Lady Vols also feature five Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-Americans in Raven Chavanne (2010, 2011, 2012), Lauren Gibson (2011, 2012), Ellen Renfroe (2011, 2012), Madison Shipman (2012) and Kat Dotson (2010).

Tennessee opens the 2013 season on Feb. 7 against Southern Utah in the Red Desert Classic in St. George, Utah. The Lady Vols open their home slate against Lipscomb on Feb. 26 at 5 p.m.
