KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Hundreds upon hundreds of fans crowded Sherri Parker Lee Stadium and the Tennessee softball clubhouse on Saturday for the fourth-annual Meet and Greet.
Lines snaked in the parking lot and throughout the stadium and clubhouse as fans of all ages got their chance to interact with the No. 1 Lady Vols. Saturday's Meet and Greet drew the most fans it ever has in its four years of existence as the facility was flooded with thousands of fans decked out in orange and white.
"It's one of my favorite days of the year because it gives our players an opportunity to interact with the fans and let them know personally how much we appreciate their support of Lady Vol Softball," co-head coach Karen Weekly said. "The turnout was unbelievable. It felt like an SEC home game."
Young fans hit off tees in the batting cages and had fun at the kids zone set up on the main concourse. Many fans toured the stadium to take a look at available season-ticket seats in the stadium. At 11:30 a.m. the Tennessee players signed autographs and chatted with the fans about the upcoming season. At 12:30 p.m. co-head coaches Ralph Weekly and Karen Weekly addressed the fans in the stands regarding this year's team and the Tennessee softball tradition of excellence both on and off the field.
The Tennessee softball team opens its 2014 season on Feb. 7 against Northern Colorado in Statesboro, Ga. UT makes its 2014 home debut on March 5 with a doubleheader against Wright State.
