Feb. 7, 2014
The 2014 season has arrived! On this final Lady Vol Softball Jersey Countdown post, we give a nod to the one player to ever wear No. 00 -- Nicole Kajitani (2007-10)!
In January and February UTSports.com counted down the days remaining until the start of the Lady Vols' 2014 campaign (Feb. 7) with looks back at the many Lady Vols who donned jersey numbers 30-00 and also a special look back at the players who wore numbers 31-99 at the 26-day mark (no UT softball player had ever worn No. 26).
#00 Nicole Kajitani
2007-10 | UT | 5-3 | R/R | San Bernardino, Calif.
Kajitani was a fiery utility player who could make an impact whether it's from the starting lineup or coming off the bench. The 5-3 San Bernardino, Calif., native, better known as "Peanut," could beat you on the basepaths or with a power swing (28 extra-base hits). She had many big moments and one of the biggest was hitting a solo home run against Michigan in the 2010 Ann Arbor Super Regional that helped push UT to a 4-3 win and its fourth trip to the Women's College World Series.
THROWBACK NOTES FROM HER BIO!
- Goes by the nickname of "Peanut," which was given to her by her father when she was an infant
- Lists former St. Louis Cardinals baseball player and World Series MVP David Eckstein as her hero for his hustle and respect for the game
