KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Tennessee senior Kat Dotson was named a CollegeSoftball360 Primetime Performer for Week 2, as announced by the website on Tuesday.
Dotson played a big role in helping No. 4/4 Tennessee (10-0) win all five of its games in USF's tournament in Tampa, Fla., last week. Starting every game in right field, she hit .500 (7-for-14) with three triples, one double, three RBIs, six runs scored, three walks and two stolen bases.
Dotson had the signature hit of the weekend in the Lady Vols' 11-0 win over No. 12/12 and fellow 2012 Women's College World Series team USF on Saturday. Bulls ace Sara Nevins and UT's Ellen Renfroe were locked in a 0-0 pitcher's duel through the first five innings. In the top of the sixth, with two outs and a runner on second, Dotson hammered a 3-2 pitch off the top of the high wall in right field for an RBI triple to give Tennessee a 1-0 lead. She scored on an error in the next at-bat to push UT's lead to 2-0 and the Lady Vols never looked back, exploding to four more runs in the sixth and five more in the seventh to run away with the game. Dotson's triple to right was a big momentum shift in a very even game that pitted two of the nation's best pitchers against each other.
Dotson also had a three-run performance against Coastal Carolina in the semifinals on Saturday and she was a homer away from the cycle in a 3-for-4 effort in Tennessee's 8-2 win over NC State to win the tournament championship.
Tennessee will next head to Cathedral City, Calif., to play in the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic from Feb. 21-23. UT will face Long Beach State and Cal State Fullerton on Thursday, Northwestern and No. 16/13 UCLA Friday and UC Santa Barbara on Saturday.
The Lady Vols will open their 2013 home schedule on Feb. 26 against Lipscomb at Lee Stadium. The home opener will feature free reserved bleacher backs for kids 12 and under based on availability. Single-game tickets are currently on sale and can be purchased through UTTix.com or through the UT ticket office at 865-656-1200.
