Notes: Madison Shipman is enjoying one of the most dominating stretches of her career. The two-time NFCA All-American and Senior CLASS Award candidate is on a career-best 13-game hitting streak and has hit five home runs in Tennessee's last four games.

This week, Shipman hit .556, going 5-for9 with three home runs five RBIs, four runs and two walks. Each of her three home runs this week came at key moments. In UT's 8-4 win over Cal State Fullerton on Feb. 25, Shipman hit a solo home run in the first inning to give the Lady Vols a 1-0 lead. Against BYU on Feb. 27, Shipman hit a two-run homer in the first inning to help Tennessee respond after giving up three runs in the top of the first to the Cougars. Shipman's home run pulled UT to within 3-2. In Tennessee's 3-1 win over San Diego State, Shipman gave UT a 2-0 lead in the third inning with a one-out homer to center field.

Tennessee Weekly Notes

No. 2 Tennessee completed its 10-day trip to California last week, going 2-1 with wins at Cal State Fullerton and San Diego State. UT suffered its first loss of the season against BYU on Feb. 27.

The Lady Vols' 14-0 start to the 2014 season was their fourth-best start in program history (24-0 in 2007, 23-0 in 2008, 16-0 start in 2005).

Tennessee had originally-schedule games in the San Diego Classic against Colorado State, Fresno State and Utah State rained out. An added game vs. Utah State scheduled for this past Saturday was also rained out.

On the week, senior shortstop Madison Shipman was a force at the plate, hitting .556 (5-for-9) with three homers, five RBIs and four runs. Sophomore Lexi Overstreet hit .500 (5-for-10) with one home run, three doubles, three RBIs and two runs. Senior pitcher Ellen Renfroe went 2-0 over two starts with 15 strikeouts over 14.0 innings of work.

This week, Tennessee will play seven games at home, starting with a doubleheader against Wright State on March 5. UT will host the Tennessee Tournament from March 7-9 and face Holy Cross, Campbell, Western Kentucky, Georgia Southern and College of Charleston.
