BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Golfer Rick Lamb and softball player Ellen Renfroe have been nominated for the H. Boyd McWhorter Scholar-Athlete Post-Graduate Scholarship by the University of Tennessee.
The H. Boyd McWhorter Scholar-Athlete Post-Graduate Scholarship has been presented by the Southeastern Conference since 1986 to the league's top male and female scholar-athletes.
The Southeastern Conference will name the 2014 recipients of the H. Boyd McWhorter Scholar-Athlete Post-Graduate Scholarship on May 6.
Highlights of Tennessee's nominees include:
Rick Lamb, Golf
Expected to graduate with a B.S. degree in Economics in May 2014
A 2013 Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar and SEC Academic Honor Roll member, he helped his team win Tennessee's Male Scholar-Athlete Team of the Year award
Finished runner-up at the 2013 NCAA Championship and won back-to-back tournament championships during senior season
Named a 2013 PING All-American honorable mention and 2012 SEC Golfer of the Week as well as being recognized as a nominee for Tennessee's Male Athlete of the Year award
A WCC Freshman of the Year transfer from Santa Clara, he finished his two year career ranked third all-time on UT's scoring average list
Volunteered in numerous community service activities including First Tee of Knoxville mentor, Love Kitchen server and Vol-oween participant

Has performed at the highest level and shined on softball's biggest stages, earning Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-America honors in 2011 (Third Team) and 2012 (First Team) and NFCA All-Southeast Region honors in 2011 (First Team), 2012 (First Team) and 2013 (Second team)
Named a Top 25 Finalist for USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year in 2012, 2013 and 2014 and was on the preseason "Watch List" for the award in each of those seasons
Named to the 2013 Women's College World Series All-Tournament Team after a stellar showing in the NCAA tournament and the WCWS, going 3-1 with a 1.58 ERA, four complete games, two shutouts, two saves and 60 strikeouts over eight appearances, five starts and 48.2 innings of work
Currently ranks second in Tennessee history in career ERA, shutouts, innings pitched and strikeouts
Is active in the community, working with Angels of Hope, Habitat for Humanity, Emerald Youth Foundation, Mount Zion Baptist Church, JustLead Program, Lakeshore Clinic and King's Daughter's School
Each year, the SEC, in conjunction with AT&T, an SEC Corporate Champion sponsor, provides the league's male and female McWhorter Scholar-Athlete Post-Graduate Scholarship recipients with a $15,000 post-graduate scholarship. The 26 remaining male and female finalists for the award will also receive a $7,500 post-graduate scholarship.
The award recipients are chosen by a committee of Faculty Athletics Representatives from the 14 SEC institutions and are honored at the SEC Spring Meetings in Sandestin, Fla., in late May.
Last year's McWhorter Award recipients were Barrett Jones of the Alabama football team and Chelsea Oswald of the Kentucky track & field team.
