OKLAHOMA CITY -- Tennessee softball co-head coach Karen Weekly was one of 25 coaches selected to the 2015-16 USA Softball Women's National Team Coaching Pool, as announced by the Amateur Softball Association (ASA) of America and USA Softball on Monday.

Karen Weekly has been in the Women's National Team Coaching Pool dating back to the 2011-12 cycle. She previously served as the coach for the USA Elite Team and helped the U.S. Senior National Team win the World Cup of Softball VII and take silver in the ISF Fastpitch Championships. In 2013, she served as an assistant coach for the U.S. Women's Senior National Team in August, helping the Red, White and Blue win gold medals in both the Mayor's Cup and the Pan American Games Qualifier.

The Weeklys have a long history with USA Softball. Ralph Weekly helped lead the U.S. to 13 gold medals and a 130-15 overall record as a coach and Women's National Teams Director in the 1990s and early 2000s. He was the U.S. hitting coach during the Americans' gold medal runs in the 1996 Atlanta Olympics and the 2000 Sydney Olympics.

If selected, Karen Weekly may have the opportunity to coach several former and current Lady Vols as Annie Aldrete, Ellen Renfroe, Madison Shipman and Tennessee alums and returning U.S. Senior National Team players Raven Chavanne and Lauren Gibson have all been invited to next month's Selection Camp.

Head coaches and assistant coaches for the Women's National Team and Junior Women's National Team will be selected from this list for all 2015 and 2016 competition. The Women's National Team Selection Committee selects the coaching pool every two years based on the International Softball Federation (ISF) World Championships biennial cycle.

"These coaches have proven themselves to be some of the best in the game and they will do a tremendous job of carrying on the legacy that USA Softball has established."

Coaches selected from this pool will have the opportunity to coach in some of the highest level softball competitions in the world over the course of the next two years.
