KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Hannah Sommer hit a solo home run in the top of the fifth and Renada Davis had an RBI double to center in the seventh to lift NC State to a 6-4 win over James Madison Sunday's continuation of Game 5 of the Knoxville Regional.
The game was rain delayed at 10:07 p.m. Saturday night and resumed play Sunday at 11:30 a.m. The game was tied 4-4 and was headed to the top of the fifth when action was halted.
NC State will now play Tennessee in Game 6, which is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
James Madison took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first when Jailyn Ford reached on a fielder's choice to the pitcher and Sarah Mooney scored on the play due to an errant throw by the third baseman.
With two outs in the fourth, Caitlin Dent hit a two-RBI single to right field and advanced to second on a fielding error and to third on a throw. Renada Davis and Leah Jones scored on the play to give NC State a 2-1 lead. Scout Albertson followed with an RBI double down the left field line and Sommer knocked an RBI single up the middle as the Wolfpack's lead grew to 4-1.
In the bottom of the fourth, Erica Field hit a one-out single up the middle and Megan Shinaberry reached on an error at second to give JMU two runners on base. Catherine Clavin ripped a two-run triple to right center and Cassidy Clayton followed with an RBI single through the right side to knot the game at 4-4.
With two outs in the top of the fifth, Sommer blasted a 2-1 pitch off Heather Keifer over the wall to give JMU the lead.
Kirsty Grant hit a leadoff double to start the seventh and Davis followed with an RBI double to deep center to give the Wolfpack a two-run advantage and cushion the lead. They went on to take the win.
