INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The No. 15-seeded Tennessee Lady Vols' road at the Women's College World Series is slated to begin on Thursday, June 3, at 7 p.m. ET when the Big Orange face-off against 10th-seeded Arizona (48-11) live on ESPN2 HD/ESPN3.com.
UT is 3-0 all-time in opening match-ups at the WCWS with victories over No. 3 Arizona (1-0 in 2005), No. 1 UCLA (4-3 in 2006) and No. 7 Texas A&M (2-0 in 2007).
The winner of the Lady Vols/Wildcats match-up will move on to face the victor of the Georgia/Washington contest at a time still to be determined.
This will be Tennessee's fourth overall trip to the Women's College World Series as the Lady Vols finished as the NCAA runner-up in 2007 and third nationally in both 2005 & 2006. The Big Orange maintains a 10-6 record at the WCWS after going 3-2 during both the 2005 & 2006 campaigns and 4-2 in 2007. UT is 37-16 all-time in eight appearances in the NCAA Tournament and a perfect 5-0 in 2010.
Tennessee advanced to Oklahoma City, Okla., with a stunning two-game sweep of the Ann Arbor Super Regional over No. 2 Michigan at the Wilpon Softball Complex in Ann Arbor, Mich. The Orange & White took the opener, 5-0, behind a two-hit shutout from freshman pitcher Ivy Renfroe, and got three home runs, including two from senior first baseman Erinn Webb in the 4-3 finale victory, to punch its ticket back to the program's fourth WCWS.
